Inner West Council News
Inner West Council is making it easier to recycle on the go with a new trial of public FOGO bins and bottle and can cages.
Inner West Council has launched a trial of public recycling facilities at two popular local parks, giving residents and visitors an easy way to dispose of food scraps, bottles and cans without lugging them home.
The new bins and cages have been installed at Enmore Park in Marrickville and Pioneers Memorial Park in Leichhardt, offering easy drop-off points for organic waste and container recyclables.
What's Being Trialled
The trial includes two types of recycling facilities:
FOGO bins (Food Organics and Garden Organics) with green lids for food scraps and organic waste
Bottle and can cages with yellow markings for container deposits
Both facilities feature clear signage and are designed to make recycling more accessible during park visits, picnics, community events and weekend activities.
Why It Matters
The trial aims to reduce general waste sent to landfill by making recycling more convenient in public spaces. By providing dedicated bins for organics and containers, Council hopes to encourage better waste separation habits and capture materials that would otherwise end up in regular rubbish bins.
The initiative also supports the NSW Container Deposit Scheme, making it easier for park users to return eligible bottles and cans.
Council has indicated the trial will help determine whether the program should be expanded to additional parks across the Inner West.
