🏠 Home of the Week 🏘
Built in 1889, Albermarle has five bedrooms with their own ensuites and built-in robes, and a sixth room set up as a bedroom or an office. The main suite has separate his and hers dressing rooms. There's a stone kitchen with a butler's pantry, a games room and both formal and informal living areas. A covered alfresco with a built-in BBQ looks over the pool. Downstairs there's a sauna, a wine room and a lift running all three levels. That basement garage looks bigger than my entire house.
📍 6 bed / 5 bath / 6 car / 1,378sqm approx.

The Inner West Is Losing Another Live Music Venue: Lazy Thinking Closes 29 August

Lazy Thinking has to be out of 380 New Canterbury Road by the end of the year, and has decided not to drag it out. The last gig is Saturday 29 August. It has been in the old butcher's shop since July 2023 and put on more than 850 shows. It has never charged an artist to use the room, and never turned anyone away at the door who couldn't pay. "We'd rather spend the next four months building something than subsidising a building we already know we're going to lose," the team wrote on Instagram. The label, the residency and the new membership program all keep going while they look for a permanent home.
It comes weeks after MoshPit Bar in Erskineville announced it will close in November. There's still time to get to a show before the 29th. And if there's a small Inner West venue you love, go this month. Buy a ticket, buy a drink. That's what keeps the doors open.

Ferragosto is back on Great North Road, Five Dock this Sunday, filling up with Italian food, market stalls, live music, cooking demos and family activities. This year’s program includes free rides, a petting zoo, roving performers, Terrazza Aperol on Garfield Street, a new FerraCinCin wine and beer garden on Barnstaple Road and three stages of entertainment across the day.
Getting there should be easier this year too, with the free shuttle bus service increased to nine buses. Six will run a continuous local loop from 9:30am to 5:30pm, with three extra buses connecting visitors from Rhodes. There will also be road closures and changes to several public bus routes, so check the transport info before heading out.

Miss Sina’s landlord lives above the shop and kept bringing down samples of his mum’s cooking. The vegan bakery took the hint, with a Greek-inspired menu running through August at its Dulwich Hill store. Specials include baklava donuts, bougatsa danishes, portokalopita, moussaka danishes, prasopita pies, ekmek tubs and freddo cappuccinos, with cinnamon buns, donuts and banana puddings still on the counter. Coffee is now from Marrickville roaster Black Market.
