Train, Light Rail or Ferry ride. Ferry rides around the Harbour or to Manly are particularly fun for younger kids.

Wildlife Sydney Zoo or head out of the city Taronga Zoo, Sydney Zoo or Calmsley Hill City Farm.
A picnic in one of the great Inner West parks
A bike ride eg. along the Glebe foreshore or Cooks River
Get out of the Inner West and head to a nearby beach. Trekking over the bridge to the Northern Beaches often means easier parking than the Eastern Suburbs and more beach space.
Head to your local swimming pool if weather permits.
A city day trip. Circular Quay is always a hit. Visit a museum. Finish off the day at Darling Harbour and visit the Water Play area.
Spend the day at Sydney Olympic Park. Great for picnics and getting the scooter or bike out. Learn to surf at Urbnsurf.
Head to the movies or IMAX at Darling Harbour.
The Australian Museum offers free General Admission.
