Why the move happened when it did
The timing, in the Vampt team's words, was "divine intervention": notice landed on their old Surry Hills space the same day as a message from the owner of the Newtown building.
Since arriving, the welcome from neighbouring King Street businesses has stood out: plenty of nearby renovations, a real mix of vintage clothing and furniture stores along the strip, and, by the team's account, several new neighbours already met and a genuine sense of community.

From lampshades to mid-century imports
Restoring lamps and lampshades is where Vampt started, back in 2001. Two decades on, it's grown into a mid-century furniture importing business, with most of the stock sourced from Denmark, Italy and Brazil. Beyond the showroom floor, there's also sourcing, restoration, property styling and furniture hire on offer.
Buying vintage well, the team says, comes down to patience: choose a piece you actually love and one that will last, and buy from someone who can restore and reupholster it properly, which is what keeps a piece worth having down the track.

The gallery, and what's coming next
Upstairs, the gallery space has now launched, open for hire and hosting workshops. More stock is being restored and reupholstered behind the scenes, and a shipment from Italy, with more lighting and more furniture, is due in the coming months.
For new arrivals, Instagram, their website and newsletter are the best places to look. For a coffee or drink close by, the team's go-to is next door: Chill Café.
