Cheek Media co-founder and CEO Hannah Ferguson says she will run as an independent in Grayndler at the next federal election, against Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Albanese has represented Grayndler since 1996, so this will be a closely watched local campaign. Ferguson is asking Grayndler locals to get in touch with the issues they want represented.

MoshPit Bar will permanently close on 28 November, wrapping up more than nine years as a live music venue in Erskineville. The team says rising operating costs and declining revenue made the business no longer viable, despite exploring every option to keep it open. Until it closes, MoshPit is inviting the community back for one last run of shows and drinks. Now's the time to drop in and support a venue that's given so much to Inner West music.

A former Leichhardt industrial site tied to Cyclops toy-making could become 203 apartments under a new State Significant Development application. The proposal for 40-76 William Street includes part demolition, adaptive reuse of existing buildings and five buildings up to 11 storeys, with 15 affordable dwellings included in the plans. Public exhibition has now closed and submissions are being collated. An earlier, smaller proposal for the same site was refused in the Land and Environment Court in 2023.

Works commenced this week on the Callan Park Tidal Baths, giving the area its first new harbour swimming spot in over 100 years. The free, family-friendly baths will include an accessible ramp, play pontoon, seating, showers and a shark net barrier, joining the Bay Run as a drawcard for locals and visitors. NSW Government and Council funding worth $3.8 million is behind the build, part of the wider revitalisation of Callan Park. The Tidal Baths are expected to open in summer 2026/27.

Lewisham Station’s long-promised upgrade is getting closer, with Transport for NSW awarding the construction contract to Degnan. The upgrade includes four lifts, accessibility upgrades, lighting and CCTV improvements, platform resurfacing and work to reduce flooding in the underpass. Construction is expected to start in late 2026 and take 18 to 24 months.

Transport for NSW is adding a second right-turn lane from Parramatta Road onto Liverpool Road in Ashfield, by reallocating one eastbound through lane. The night works are scheduled through to 30 September 2026 and may mean temporary lane closures, delays and some parking changes while work is underway.

Mitchell Road will stay partly closed after last week’s construction wall collapse at Coronation Property’s 155 Mitchell Road site. City of Sydney says its engineers found part of the road is no longer safe, so the northbound lane between Maddox and Coulson streets is closed to all traffic. The southbound lane is also closed to vehicles over 4 tonnes, including buses. There’s no reopening date yet, and SafeWork NSW has ordered the developer to stop work and investigate what happened.

Sana Mediterranean opens its newest store on Darling St this Saturday, with $10 signature bowls from 11am to 8pm. Beat Kitchen Records will be playing old-school hip hop, with local art also part of the day. See venue for terms and conditions.

Odd Culture Is Taking Over The Impy
Big news for Erskineville: Odd Culture Group is taking over day-to-day operations at The Imperial Hotel from 1 September 2026, in a new partnership with owner Universal Hotels. The Impy will keep trading for now, but a larger reset is planned for early 2027, including a $5 million redevelopment, more ground-floor space, a bigger beer garden and a 24-hour club, alongside updates to dining and entertainment. More details are still to come.
