Greyhound racing at Wentworth Park will end in late 2027. The Government is turning the 14-hectare site into community sports fields and parkland. The change ends nearly a century of racing at the venue. Up to 7,300 new homes will be delivered across the wider Ultimo-Pyrmont precinct, with the park staying in public hands. Lord Mayor Clover Moore says it's a massive win after years of community campaigning. The new parkland will host sports, festivals and everyday community use. Construction on 1,400 homes at the old Fish Market site starts early 2027. Transport upgrades include a new ferry stop, improved light rail and the Pyrmont Metro opening in 2032.

After almost 20 years of local campaigning, the Inner West’s GreenWay is finally opening in full this Sunday 14 December. The 6km car-free walking and cycling corridor links the Cooks River at Earlwood with Iron Cove and the Bay Run, mostly following the light rail and Hawthorne Canal.

Head to Johnson Park, Dulwich Hill from 10am – 1pm for the grand opening with entertainment, games, workshops, food, self-guided tours and the chance to meet some of the artists behind the GreenWay’s eight new public artworks. Pram-friendly, mobility accessible and welcoming of service animals, it’s your first chance to explore the whole route in one go.
